I saw snow, and it was beautiful

Snowy side of the road

On Sunday, the girl and I made it up to Mt Hood for a day of fun pain, snowboarding at SkiBowl. This was her first time to see snow over 1 inch deep, much less attempt to ride down it on a waxed plank of wood. The drive up was beautiful (minus having to figure out how to put chains on your tires for the first time), with the fog clearing and the sky clear and blue; she couldn’t get over how bright the snow was at first. After a slight setback of some forgotten snowpants (thankfully they rent those too), she started her lesson of how to gracefully fall down while I went exploring for a couple of hours.

I only traveled on the west side of the mountain, not wanting to stray too far in case she got hurt but thoroughly enjoyed my first time back on the snow in 6 years. My new Lib Tech performed like a champ and the couple feet of powder they had gotten over the last few days didn’t hurt either. I tried to hit a few jumps, flailed about in the air but at least stuck the landing, did a few wheelies and was just thankful we have finally gotten up to a snowy climate from Texas.

Brittany didn’t have quite as much fun as I did, between the new boots needing to be broken in choking off blood flow to her feet and soreness that comes with falling down every 3 minutes. I think she sees the potential for fun though.

Next weekend, my little sister is coming up from South Carolina and we’re taking her for her first snowboarding adventure as well - gonna have to get some good pictures of that. At least Brittany will have a day up on her so she can show off her skills. I’ll hopefully make it over to the park and watch some kids throw down tricks I wish I could do. Maybe by March…
